Three judges from Cheshire Community Action visited Audlem yesterday and met a team of seven who gave informal presentations on village activities and recent achievements.

It was the first time Audlem had entered the competition since success in 2005. It's understood the judges are visiting many villages across the whole of Cheshire (pre-split into East and West) so competition is sure to be tough.

Before the team spoke, the presentation started with Colin Cliffe's Audlem poem which has been set to photographs and music by Alan Duncan. It was a big hit at this year's Festival and seemed an appropriate way to show how Audlem ticks.

After questions from the judges, there was a short tour of the village. The judges saw the new touchscreen computers in the Mill Shop; saw the first of the historic boats arriving for the Transport Festival and the Audlem Lass signage; went up the newly painted steps and path to the playing field and the renovated children's playground.

They viewed the work to renovate the public toilets before touring the centre of the village with its established and new shops and the planting provided by ADAS.

There wasn't a scrap of litter to be seen – it was also judging day for Best Kept Village – and, hopefully, the judges for both awards left impressed.
