The 'common-sense' view on double yellow lines

We understand that following meetings between Audlem Parish Councillors and Cheshire County Council Highways Officers on 11th April, plans are being put forward for double yellow lines and loading restrictions signs outside the new Co-op. A local resident, who describes himself as a member of the Commonsense Party – possibly a political movement that could sweep the country – has contacted Audlem Online with some thoughts on this development.

He says that he agrees with the proposal, as far as it goes, but would go further. The developer of Moseley's Yard should be made to resurface the road as there are now huge puddles after rain which mean pedestrians can get soaked by passing vehicles; also, higher kerbs should be installed that discourage vehicles from parking there on the narrow pavement – double yellow lines are hardly a deterrent elsewhere in the village on their own. The 'commonsense' view of our correspondent is that the resurfacing and proper kerbs should be in place before the double yellow lines are painted!

Our correspondent also feels it's essential that a barrier is installed outside the shop door as, sooner or later, a child or shopper is going to be hit by a vehicle as they leave the shop, especially if the kerb remains as low as it is at present. We understand the Highways authority are not in favour of such barriers, but there does seem an argument in their favour.

It all seems, we have to admit, like real commonsense.
