Remember to put your clocks back tonight as British Summer Time (BST) ends at 2.00 am tomorrow morning, when we revert to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

BST was first proposed in 1907 by builder William Willett in a pamphlet entitled The Waste of Daylight. In this he campaigned and argued for an advancement of 80 minutes as he was incensed by the waste of daylight hours first thing in a morning, when people were still in bed.

The Government refused to accept Willett's argument for years and it wasn't until May 1916 that "Daylight Saving Time" was introduced. It's been with us ever since. Ironically, Willett died in 1915, so he never saw his dream come to fruition.

GMT will continue until 1.00 am on Sunday 30th March 2008 when we again revert to BST.
