Church Roof Appeal

In 2010 thieves stole some of the lead from the North Aisle roof necessitating temporary repairs.

Since that time we have been investigating alterative roof coverings which would be less attractive to thieves and we have now received recommendations and obtained planning consents from English Heritage and the Local Council to repair the damage. We have also received quotations for the work which amount to £25,000. Unfortunately we do not have all the funds necessary to undertake this most urgent work.
St James's Church Audlem has been serving the community since 1278. It is still open daily and provides services for worship, Baptisms, Marriages and Funerals as well as hosting some village events.

The maintenance of both our beautiful building and the services and activities, including having clergy, is funded by what is given by the congregation and by visitors; there is no alternative source of funding, no government grants etc. However, the replacement of the lead is beyond our resources and we need the help of our local community in order that we can protect this beautiful building and keep it water tight.

We are therefore taking the unusual step of appealing to the whole community with the request that those who value this historic building consider making a donation towards this particular work. We must undertake the repairs this summer to prevent further deterioration of the structure and with this in mind have set ourselves a target of raising the funds by Easter.

We would be most grateful for any contribution large or small you are able to make towards restoring the building. For those who are tax payers please consider signing a Gift Aid declaration which would enable us to recover an additional 25 pence for every pound given. Cheques should be made payable to Audlem PCC.

Donations may be sent to:
