Cheshire East's new Citizens Panel – called Influence Cheshire East – is currently being recruited and is inviting a sample of selected Cheshire East residents to join.

Cheshire East Council is urging those residents who receive an invitation randomly in the post to complete the form and become a member of the Citizens Panel – this is the second and final mail-out of the recruitment process.

As well as the postal invitation process there will also be a limited amount of street recruitment taking place within the Borough during August.

The panel has members from all over the Borough – the youngest member to be recruited so far is 18, and the oldest  is 98.

Panel members will have the opportunity to influence services such as education, social care and the environment.

Research shows only 24 per cent of Cheshire East residents feel they are able to influence local decisions in their area (Source: 2008 Place Survey).

Cheshire East Council is committed to the government's 'Localism' agenda, which puts strong emphasis on involving local people in the development of local services.

Councillor Wesley Fitzgerald, leader of Cheshire East Council, said: "The opinions and ideas of people who live and work in Cheshire East are important to us.

"The selected panel of 3,000 people will be representative of the Cheshire East population as a whole and so ensures residents have a loud and clear voice.

"We would also like to thank those who took part in our previous panels and who have made very important contributions so far."
