Seven was Cheshire East Council's lucky number at the Marketing Cheshire Annual Awards 2013 at Tatton Park on Thursday.

The best of the Borough's businesses ensured that Cheshire East continues to boast a prosperous tourism industry, which grew by nine per cent last year and is now worth £689m.

A total of seven Cheshire East businesses picked up awards at this year's ceremony, which is now in its ninth year and recognises and showcases the fantastic range of tourism businesses in the county. They are:

  • Cranage Hall Hotel, Business Tourism Award
  • Peckforton Castle Hotel, Large Hotel of the Year
  • Cholmondeley Pageant of Power, The Source Partnership, Marketing Initiative of the Year
  • Misha Horder, senior spa therapist, The Mere Golf Resort and Spa, Rising Star of the Year
  • Live from Jodrell Bank, Tourism Event of the Year
  • Deer Walks, Tatton Park, Tourism Experience of the Year
  • Yew Tree Inn, Bunbury, Tourism Pub of the Year

The Dickensian Christmas 'tourism event' at Tatton Park and 'rising star' Lucy Siebert, museum director at Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker, near Nantwich, were also highly commended by judges.

The tourism industry in Cheshire East now employs 9,849 people directly and indirectly on a full-time basis, which is up 10.5 per cent on the previous year. The area attracted more than 13 million visitors in 2012 – a 9.4 per cent increase on 2011.
