There have been 78 convictions for littering offences since October last year, which have all been dealt with at South Cheshire Magistrates Court, Crewe.
One repeat offender, from Crewe, who was issued with two FPNs for littering within a few weeks of each other, has been ordered to pay costs and fines totalling £620.
This is the background to an odd story about a man in Crewe who complained about rubbish being dumped in an alleyway near his home.
On investigation by a community enforcement officer from Cheshire East Council, it transpired that the rubbish had actually been dumped by the man himself, and not only that, but it had included items with his own address on it!
He duly appeared at South Cheshire Magistrates Court, in Crewe, and pleaded guilty to an offence of fly-tipping, contrary to the Environmental Protection Act 1990. He was ordered to pay costs and fines totalling £544.
This seems to set a new standard for stupidity, as well as highlighting Cheshire East's efforts to tackle this problem.
Last month the council launched its 'No Rubbish Excuses' campaign as part of the authority's efforts to tackle fly-tipping, littering and dog fouling and encourage more residents to take pride in their towns and villages.
