Many hundreds of cyclists passed through Audlem yesterday. The event was the UCI Cheshire Cat which truly marks the start of British summertime for cyclosportive riders – it's the first big ride of the year and it also takes place on the first day of British summertime.
There's a choice of routes with a 37 miler – quite flat and taking riders along the Cheshire lanes – and the longer 66 and 102 mile options. The latter brings riders to Audlem as well as the notorious Mow Cop climb near Congleton.
A competitor yesterday told Audlem Online that 2,700 cyclists were involved in the whole event. It certainly brought a two-wheeled procession through Audlem for many hours yesterday.
Whether there's to be a sprint finish through the village is another matter but more on Audlem Online in the coming weeks on this event.
