In less than a week my daughter Charlotte will be heading to Nevada to cycle through Death Valley to Las Vegas. She keeps telling me it's only 420km, so I shouldn't worry, I'm not sure whether she's trying to convince me or herself!

She has form for signing up to these things. There was the time she completed the three peak challenge with a partially dislocated knee, her infamous Costa Rica coast to coast cycle which has left her with a permanently bent thumb and of course when she returned from Tanzania complete with Malaria! (The surgery are currently on high alert – don't worry)

Charlotte's hoping this trip will be less eventful, it's only 6 days of undulating hills, 40 degree heat and various types of arachnid...

The Christie Hospital

She's putting herself (and me) through this trauma to raise some much needed funds for The Christie hospital. As many of you are aware, The Christie (based on the outskirts of Manchester) is one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe as well as an international leader in cancer research. The Christie charity, supports research, care, treatment, education projects and much more beyond what the NHS can currently fund.

She's cycling in memory of her Dad, Des who passed away in March 2015 following a 3 year battle with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer. Along with the excellent care he received at the surgery, he was fortunate enough to be treated at The Christie hospital on more than one occasion when he required specialist treatments.

Being her father's daughter, she doesn't do things by halves, she's already raised over £1000 for The Christie but every penny helps. She's self-funded this trip so all money raised goes directly to the charity.

Many thanks
