The traditional Charity Quiz night saw 123 quizzers enjoying the usual hospitality at the Lord Combermere, with a great buffet laid on by Allan and his staff.
This annual event is made possible from the weekly entry charges that quizmaster Ralph Warburton squirrels away during a year of Tuesday-night quizzes. In the course of a year he and his colleagues (especially Mike Haines to whom everyone sent best wishes for a speedy recovery) pose nearly 4000 questions (to most of which they know the right answer) plus many tie-breakers.
During the year 300 pints and 150 bottles of wine are given away as prizes.
So to the Charity Quiz night on Tuesday – this year the re-born Audlem Youth Club was chosen as beneficiary. In total, from entry fees, raffle and auction, and amidst much good-humour and banter, over £700 was raised.
Many individuals and village businesses contributed generously to the various prizes and the general success of the event.
Kate Parkes, the boss of the Youth Club, was amazed, even overwhelmed by the amount raised- she will be publishing her own article about it all in a day or two..
