On Tuesday July 26th, Combermere Abbey will open its gates to host a Charity Open Garden Day, raising funds for The Friends of Whitchurch Hospital, inviting the public to explore this magnificent privately-owned estate and its Victorian Walled Gardens.

The gardens at Combermere have been lovingly restored over the past two decades to their former glory, as once enjoyed during the first part of the C20th. Visitors can now enjoy almost ten acres of the estate's grounds, including six acres of beautiful Victorian Walled Gardens, The Glasshouse and the fruit tree maze, The Pleasure Garden and The Garden Wood, which leads down to the lake, with enchanting views over the water and countryside beyond.

The fruit tree maze, the only one of its kind in the world, is an espaliered labyrinth of redcurrants, gooseberries and over 25 varieties of apple and pear trees. The Pop-Up Café in the middle walled garden will provide a convivial place to gather and enjoy light refreshments, including home-made cakes, whilst drinking in views over the garden.

The Friends of Whitchurch Hospital will be supported by the fund raising event. Created in 1966, the 'Friends Group' has provided direct services and well as helping to raise money for the hospital. The monies from this event will be used to buy familiarisation objects from the 1960's and 70's which will be used in the reminiscence area for the hospital's Dementia project.

The Abbey's team of gardeners will be on hand to answer any garden queries and share their tips and anecdotes at these delightfully informal events. A history and map of the gardens, including plants list will be available.

There will be a Plant & Produce Stall too, with lovely home-grown plants, home-made fresh fruit juices and preserves, as well as books about the history of the Estate. There are a limited number of the renowned Wellington oak saplings available at each event, many sold successfully last year at the Abbey's Open Days and at a charity auction event.

Tickets are priced at £5 each and under-16s, £2. Gates will open at 1pm and the events will close at 5pm (last entry is at 4pm). Kindly note dogs and picnics are not permitted at these events.

Parking is free of charge.

Combermere Abbey is privately owned and still a family home. It is also an exclusive wedding and events venue, and has a collection of award-winning self catering accommodation including ten holiday cottages and the recently restored North Wing will offer a new bridal suite called 'The Salamanca Suite', also available as a luxurious B&B for visitors to the area.

Combermere Abbey is located between Nantwich, in Cheshire and Whitchurch, in Shropshire on the junction of the A525 and A530, about six miles west of Audlem.
