Cardboard Youngsters at Youth Club

The latest from the frontline...thanks!

I think we are probably all doomed if we ever needed to rely on Youth Club to build us temporary cardboard shelters in a post-apocalyptic scenario.

The honourable exception to that would have to be Pip and Ruby who can usually be relied upon to throw themselves with gusto into whatever activity they are met with at 7.15pm on a Wednesday evening. With a wisdom belying her years Pip told me that they do this partly because they don't want the effort that goes into planning the activities to be wasted (Ok, so I'm slightly paraphrasing but that was the gist of it). A definite lump in the throat moment and I'm placing my bets on which girl makes PM first.

So, anyway, we might not be winning any awards from Bear Grylls or Kevin McCloud anytime soon but mission was still accomplished because our gargantuan pile of cardboard was redeployed in a plethora of remarkably imaginative ways across the evening. Which, it has to be said, has got to be the point after all.
A mention in despatches must go to Shea, Tyler, Cecile and Amelia who shuttled a mountain of cardboard into three car boots at the end of the evening and all with a smile.

Another vote of thanks also to the many contributors of cardboard including some lovely Audlem residents who responded to the shout out on Audlem Online, Tim and Nicky Ball from the bike shop for the ace bike boxes which are massive and sturdy (tip: head there at the first sign Trump is reaching for 'the biscuit')and Youth Club volunteer Caitlin who raided a supply from work that she appeared to stash in her boot for a week.

Next week at Youth Club we are back in the kitchen with an early Valentine theme, decorating heart shaped cookies. We will also be making peg messages, which as I recall, from a planning meeting back in November, looked very cool. I cannot expand due to a senior moment but be assured that Caitlin has it all under control.

Audlem Youth Club meets every Wednesday in term time at the Public Hall, 7.15pm -- 9pm. £1 subs on entry, no membership necessary, Year 7 upwards welcome. All queries to Kate on 07789 915940.
