Volunteer Task Force Day.

The Volunteers for C&RT based in Audlem have been out working on their monthly Towpath Task Force Day, although there is a major stoppage on the Audlem flight of locks with new gates being installed on both locks 9 and 13 with all the associated repairs to the historic brick work.

It is business as usual with the Audlem Volunteers, obviously no boat traffic but the normal process carries on with cutting back brambles and overgrown bushes, checking the general flight for storm damage, fallen branches, clearing leaves, generally tidying up the lock quadrants plus checking and cleaning signage.

Today we have also spent time on clearing leaves from the main approach road and steps down to the canal from the Bridge Inn to lock 13, also filling in / repairing some small potholes on the canal tow path in preparation for the C&RT Open Day (Saturday 21st January) as advertised on Audlem on Line.

Visitors are invited to see first-hand the works taking place to restore and repair lock 13. Take a look inside the drained lock and walk along the bottom of the lock chamber up to the temporary dam next to the by-wash weir. Visitors will have the opportunity to speak to the Trust's experts and local volunteers

The six week work programme will involve replacing the top single timber gate on lock 13 as well as making repairs to the brick work and cill buffer. A temporary dam has been installed close to the by-wash weir so that expert engineers can inspect the full length of the lock approach. As with last months report we always meet at the C&RT yard, adjacent to the front of the Audlem Mill Shop on the second Saturday of every month with a flexible 10:00 am start.

As always new members are more than welcome to join us, full training is offered for our Lock Keeper / Ranger duties and other various rewarding
tasks.

Regards.
Derek Jones Audlem Volunteer Lock Keeper / Ranger.
