This month the Audlem group of C&RT Volunteers have met on the first Saturday of the month (normally the second Saturday) thus giving us the opportunity to complete some outstanding work, repainting the lock 'CILL' markers, finishing off some work around the three locks that have already been painted over the last few weeks. All this to prepare for an audit / inspection including and involving the area from below lock 15 up to locks 13 / 12 and bridge 78.

The volunteers were again met by Roger Birch our team leader for the day, Roger is also a full time employee with the C&RT. We are yet again lucky with the weather, enabling us to carry out the various tasks of painting lock 12, painting the mooring pins and bollards, strimming the area of canal bank from the Audlem Mill Shop up to the Bridge Inn, generally brushing and clearing tree debris from the entrance road to the canal, also clearing the lock quadrants and a litter pick of the general area. The team, with Roger's guidance also focused on repairing a small fence above the main road entrance to the canal that had become damaged by a falling branch in a recent storm.

Again, as the day's work progressed we also assisted boat traffic through lock 12 as we painted it with lots of positive comments on our efforts and painting skills. Tea and coffee 'plus the odd biscuit' was supplied by one of the team members, thank you, 'Big Kev.'

Also, anyone who is interested in becoming a Volunteer Lock Keeper / Lock Ranger with the Audlem team are more than welcome to look out for us on the lock flight to enquire what is involved in joining the team, from training to general familiarisation with the group.

Regards,

Derek Jones
Volunteer Lock Keeper / Lock Ranger
