Well what a brilliant day for the team of volunteers with fantastic weather for this month's programme of work.

We were greeted by our manager Neville Preece in the covered accommodation at the back of the C&RT yard adjacent to the Audlem Mill Shop.

After checking that we had all materials required to enable us to carry out the day's work programme we were introduced to 2 volunteers, Norman and John, who are normally based at the 'Anderton Boat Lift' and who had requested to join us to get a feel of volunteering on the Audlem flight.

We then met with Roger Birch, our team leader for the day, again a full time employee with the C&RT.

Roger in turn ran through the requirements for the day, safe methods of work, the risks associated with today's task, and all other safety and spill aspects of the job. The job in question today was working on locks 15 and 14, preparing and painting the lock gates and associated equipment, painting mooring bollards, bridge rope guides, clearing the lock quadrants and also clearing debris from the canal tow path from locks 15 /14. This included painting the mile marker post.

As the painting was taking place we also assisted boat traffic through the locks. Wet paint signage was fixed and displayed in and around the work area. In all another great day with rewarding comments from the general public. As normal, tea and coffee plus 'the odd biscuit' was supplied by a member of the
team.

For information the team will meet this Wednesday evening 12th April at around 5 pm.

As always we would be delighted to welcome any new faces to the team, you never know you may also find yourself on BBC North West Tonight News, the Audlem team 'hit the headlines' a couple of weeks ago.

Regards,
Derek Jones – Volunteer Lock Keeper / Lock Ranger.
