canal bridge safety

Roland Turner sent in this article following the "Gridlock in Audlem" story.

Following Mr Owen's article , Gridlock in Audlem, Wednesday 16/7 it made me think about the traffic problem in Audlem. I thought that when Cheshire East looked at pedestrian safety in Audlem around 2019 they invested in a tin of white paint to create a type of 'ghost island' to protect pedestrians crossing the canal bridge. The idea being that vehicles using the bridge would avoid pedestrians by giving them a safe space.

The picture taken a few days ago shows just how effective this safety measure is. As can be seen from the skid mark going well into the 'safe space' I don't think a tin of paint will really fix the problem, hopefully on this occasion no one was injured. If the Muller development goes ahead a few hundred more cars will be using the bridge, probably twice a day, and present a clear risk to pedestrian safety. The bridge is the only realistic way of cars and pedestrians getting into and through the village.

It is obvious to everyone that knows Audlem, or would take time to look, that there is a serious traffic problem and pedestrian lives are being put at risk. If allowed to build more houses it would just be like throwing petrol onto a fire to put it out! Oh, and we had one of those in the village centre only the other day creating more havoc on the surrounding roads.
