The History Society is having a busy time at the moment!

Last Tuesday, we took Mrs Adamson's class around the village where they were encouraged to look for clues about the buildings – the materials used and the names of streets and dates on plaques. Vicarage Lane, School Lane, Emberton Place, Thornton house, County Constabulary – what a give away!

Last Thursday night, the rather brief title, Memories of war, did not do justice to the presentation given by Mark Potts. He has published five books of photographs of the local men who died and those who served in both World wars and the Boer War and is working on a sixth.

His talk had selected many local references and anecdotes, including pictures from Coxbank and Burleydam and three men from Audlem who enlisted together at Nantwich because they had consecutive service numbers – and were all killed together.

Raymond Bloor (no direct relation) of Market Drayton, who asked about George Green, is hoping to get the Austin 7 Ruby ready for our Transport rally so it would be returning home. He wonders if there are any photos with it on?

We are busy now preparing for the exhibition at Corbrook Court this weekend. Also, I have just counted out 180 copies of the historical walks leaflet for the visit of the North Staffordshire National Trust group in June who have hired the Public Hall as a base to explore the village with guided tours of the centre and the canal and then enjoy a meal!
