Burleydam W I enjoyed a most successful painting day on Saturday September 28th when Gill Adlington showed 9 complete novices how to paint a picture that they would be proud to take home.

Gill provided canvas, easels, brushes, and oil paints, and step by step she showed us how to build up a landscape of trees, sky, waterfall and pool.

All who took part were surprised and delighted with what, for most of us, was a first time attempt at painting. It was a most enjoyable experience for us all, so much so, that we have asked Gill to give us another day in 2014.

At the October meeting members were invited to Aston for a fashion show, notice of the County Carol Service at Chester Cathedral, and the group Carol Service in Nantwich was given.

Posters for the W I Campaign to Save our High Streets were given to all members, who were to offer them to local shops to display in their windows.

Arrangements were made for the visit to 'Cats' at Hanley and to the Emma Bridgwater Pottery in November, also for the Malbank Group meeting at Acton, where the speaker will be a Pantomime Dame.

The demonstrator of sugar paste flowers was our own joint president, Jean Cornes. She showed us how she rolled the sugar paste very thinly and cut out and shaped the petals before making them into flowers for cake decoration.

Then it was our turn, where we had to assemble the flowers and leaves on a base to make an attractive arrangement for the top of our Christmas Cakes.

The competition for a favourite flower was won by Diana Marchand; 2nd Angela Lightfopot; 3rd Margaret Hollins. Raffle winners were Joyce Cross, Margaret Hollins and Jean Cornes

Next meeting is Tuesday November 5th at 7.30pm. in Burleydam Community Room. Visitors and new members always welcome, ring Secretary on 01948 871 651
