Work is due to start today on renewing the floodlights at Audlem Bowls Club. Thanks to generous grants from Audlem Parish Council and Cheshire East's Community Grants Scheme, the lighting columns that have served the Club so well for over forty years will be replaced.

The columns were originally used on a farm belonging to one of our members and, as you can see from the photograph, there is clear evidence of corrosion at their base.

The four new columns are to be made and installed by Steel Design Fabrications Ltd of Hadnall and will be hinged, making maintenance and repair of the lights easier and safer. Eight new LEDs will be attached to the columns and this will help to reduce our electricity costs.

The new lights will be installed just in time for the new bowls league season which starts in April. Audlem Bowling Club plays under floodlights on four or five nights a week.

No excuse...

With the new lights illuminating the green as never before, bowlers will no longer be able to offer the excuse of poor light as the reason a game was lost.
