Well what a night that was – another new live music event for Audlem, and an absolute roaring success it was to.

The event being the Blue Café at the Scout and Guide hall last night, and the moment you walked into the venue you had the feeling of being in a top jazz bar, with moody lighting, perfectly laid tables and an atmosphere second to none, all perfectly created by the organisers.

The MusicOnto the music – what can be said that hasn't already been said about all the acts involved? The Spare Ribs, Jack and Heidi, the incredibly talented duo joined by their young percussionist, Joe Brown, on the box drum, absolutely stunned the waiting audience with their amazing vocals and the variety of instruments they played keeping their set lively and interesting.

It all culminated in Heidi playing solo her song Cheese Dreams, a very catchy song with a superb dance that the audience happily joined in with.

The Folkwits, Dave and Kel, these two have a stunning unique sound that will match any act in any top folk club in the world. The sooner we can get hold of some of their music on cd the better, with two highlights of the set being, 'Who knows where the time goes' and the magical, 'Freight Train'. The hairs on the back of the neck were up and ready for the headlining act.

But first, the audience were treated to waitress service with a great spaghetti dish and a veggie option too, followed by a charging of the glasses in anticipation.

And they were not disappointed.

Blue CaféThe event itself took it's name from the headlining act being Blue Café. With the reviewer growing up to the sound of Alg performing in various venues around the village, this was going to be a very special moment with the newly reformed Andy Halliwell (Alg) and Val Warner joined by Ian Haughey, Mike Waldron and Sevy G the stage was set, complete with double bass and cello.

And what a set it was, the audience silenced by some incredible music and touching dedications to friends and family. And as the night went on, the Blue Café was treated to the haunting incredible sound of the Cello, played perfectly by Sally Keighley.

The song writing in this set was incredible. With all members involved in writing it is clearly a very special group of people. One song in particular tugged at the heart strings 'Sore Eyes' written by Alge and dedicated to his grandson, Jay – very touching and left many with lumps in their throats.

And as the tidy up began and the audience left, an impromptu performance of 'Strangers on the Shore', on the Clarinet eased people out into the night air. What a perfect end to a perfect night – and thank you Alisdair Grant McKenzie.

EffortIn summary of this great night, the effort put into this event was high and the organisers had clearly worked their magic, with a superb setting, a high quality sound and superb lighting.

Well done to Ian Haughey, Pete Marshall, Julian and Gunners and the numerous others involved in all areas of this night. And with calls from the crowd for more, there is rumour of the Blue Cafe going on tour, and future events in a very special village.
