Balloons low over Audlem

Two hot-air balloons drifted low over the western side of Audlem yesterday evening.

It was a spectacular sight for those watching – and possibly an even more spectacular sight of Audlem for those aloft.

The ballons were so low, the noise of the gas being released and fired could be heard clearly and the seemingly large numbers on board in the Stan Robinson balloon were waving to those in the gardens below.

That balloon advertises a business based in Durham and Devon. Were they en route between the two, we wonder, as they passed over heading in a south-westerly direction.

One Chatbox contributor last night queried the safety of balloons flying so low over houses and wondered who, if anybody, regulates such flights and their height.
