Eight members of AWEG (Audlem Wildlife & Ecology Group) enjoyed a fascinating and instructive visit yesterday, Friday 20th September, to Wybunbury Moss where botanist Shirley Burton showed members around the moss and its fascinating ecology.
While the moss itself is home to acid-loving plants, including many cranberries and a number of rarities, a field nearby which the group explored is alkaline with a very different range of plants.
The group was joined by a local Wybunbury volunteer, Rupert Randall, who has been involved in activities and work on the moss for many years.
The next AWEG trip is on Friday 4th October with a visit to Shropshire Wildlife Trust's Wood Lane hide at Colmere near Ellesmere when many migrating bird species should be the attraction.
AWEG meets every other month in the Lord Combermere. The next meeting is on Tuesday 12th November at 7.15pm.
