AWEG, the Audlem Wildlife & Ecology Group, had its first meeting on Tuesday evening since founder and organiser Greville Watts left Audlem to move to his new home in Wem.

A well-attended meeting planned a series of visits starting on Friday 20th September to Wybunbury Moss where botanist Shirley Burton will show members around the moss and its fascinating ecology.

That will be followed on 4th October with a visit to Shropshire Wildlife Trust's Wood Lane hide at Colmere near Ellesmere when many migrating bird species should be the attraction.

Potential trips next year include Cheshire Wildlife's HQ at Bickley Hall, the Sefton coast, Hilbre Island (see photo), Warburton Wood near Frodsham, Melverley Meadows at Ash and Marbury Country Park.

The group meets every other month at the Lord Combermere. AWEG was formed three years ago and arose out of the 2010 Parish Plan.
