Audlem wins Best Village Award

As many of you will be aware, we were awarded a medal in the Best Large Village Category of the whole of the North West of England. This was for both 2010 and 2011 .

I approached Messrs Oxley’s of Crewe to see if we could commission a plaque to record each of these medal awards and affix the same to our very famous plaque walls in the Village Square. Cynthia Murray, the Audlem representative of Oxleys (01270 811407) organised a meeting and I met with Rob and Jeff Oxley this week.

I am delighted to say that the company will be creating the plaques to our design and even more delighted that they will be donating them to the village.

As an aside , in conversation it transpired that both Rob & Jeff are avid supporters of Liverpool F C . As indeed am I. In my business career I was a Director of Littlewoods of Liverpool and held 5 season tickets for the main stand – for myself and my family – and these seats were in row 15 , seats 201/204. Lo and behold , Rob & Jeff  have seats -and have had their 3 season tickets for well over 40 years – And their seats are in row 16 – right behind mine! Such a small , small world!

The plaques will be affixed as soon as we can . And I will be presenting Messrs R & J Oxley a gift of some of the superb cakes baked by my daughter in law, Janis of Jinja Bakes,  because they expressed much joy in seeing these in the coffee lounge during our meeting.
