The President welcomed everyone to the meeting, including 5 visitors.
The speaker for the afternoon was Joanna Williams on The Great Miss Becker. Lydia Becker was a leader in the early British Suffrage movement in the 1800’s. She established Manchester as a centre for the suffrage movement. Her talk was most interesting and informative. She was thanked by Jean Cooke.
The Annual Birthday Lunch held in the Methodist Church celebrating 104 years, was a very warm, welcoming occasion – the Church Caterers did a splendid job of providing an excellent meal.
Table flowers were arranged by Anne Poole – all in all the room looked very inviting.
The Secretary read out correspondence received including the Group boundaries which have changed, our AGM representative this year is Alsager WI who will send a delegate to the AGM in Cardiff.
Various Clubs have restarted since Covid, including the Book Club, MahJong and Rummikub to name a few. Jean Cook our Group representative, gave her report on the recent meeting she attended – it was proposed to start up the social events like dominoes/darts later in the year.
The next meeting is on Thursday 2nd March 2pm, when the Speaker for the afternoon is Rowena Lovett, a Lingerie Designers Life!
