Audlem Music & Arts Festival

As we move fast to putting on the biggest free Festival of South Cheshire, I give as a taster a few elements of the massive programme.

We are deep into the planning of all the hours of free entertainment we will present to residents and visitors and our 36-page printed guide – together with all who have so freely given us their support in terms of finance – is building well.

More – much more as we get ever closer. The Festival is already famed for its music but here's something about the planned Arts programme:

Arts

• A collection of work from local artists,designers and craft persons. Professionals and amateur enthusiasts.
• Drawings,paintings,3D pieces,textiles,ceramics and photography,
• Jewellery and basketry.
• Some work is for sale
• A special exhibition by years 5/6 of Audlem St James School.

The Bells

A Quarter Peal of the Bells of St James Church will be rung at 1900 on the 24th as part of the Festival.

The bells high in the church tower were cast in 1736 by Abel Rudhall of Gloucester and they have been rung ever since. The metal used in the foundry is an alloy of iron and tin called bell metal and each bell is tuned to the needs of the church. We have 6 bells here in Audlem.

The Treble. 4.25 Cwt (216 kilos) F sharp
The second 4.5. Cwt 229 kilos) E
The third. 5.0 Cwt(255 kilos) D
The fourth. 5.5. Cwt.( 280 kilos)D sharp
The fifth. 7.5. Cwt. (322) kilos B
The Tenor 9. Cwt. (458) kilos A

Ringing the quarter peal will mean that each bell will be struck at least 1250 times in various patterns and orders and will take about 45 minutes to complete. A real test for our superb team of campanolgists.

Bells are ring for church services, weddings , national and international events and occasionally for funerals.
