Over the weekend, the now fitted-out Audlem Lass took to the water and embarked on fully loaded sea trials. Rod Cottrell, who will lead a team of six trained coxswains, has overseen the fitting out with new seating, the installation of weather proofing and a new engine.

The Inland Waterways Association, through Jean Evans, has made a splendid donation towards the project which was used to purchase a full set of lifebelts.

Rod Cottrell bought the boat hull and the fit out has been part financed by the Overwater Marina and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe Investing in Rural Areas.

From 22nd April, Good Friday, Rod and his team will be providing a scheduled boat service at weekends on the canal linking Audlem (from Lock 15) and the Overwater Marina with some trips further north to Hack Green and Nantwich. Bookings will be taken for additional trips from Monday to Friday.

Profits from this new service will be donated to the RNLI. More details on timetable and fares, which are likely to be £1 for a day ticket from Audlem to Overwater Marina, shortly. The boat can accommodate twelve passengers.

Our thanks to Derek Jones, one of the coxswains, for the photos.
