Audlem Lass, the new boat plying the canal for the first time this weekend between Audlem and Overwater Marina, has enjoyed a sensational start.

A total of 569 trips were taken by adults and children over the four-day weekend plus, we are told, eight dogs and seven push chairs.

The top photo shows the very first passengers on Friday morning at 9.30am setting off in glorious weather from the Overwater Marina. Over the weekend, there was often a queue waiting at Lock 15, the bottom of the Audlem Locks, as seen in the second photo.

Donations to the RNLI, the lifeboat charity, were £466 including a generous contribution from Debbie and Vernon Miles of the Coffee Lounge at the Marina who had a very busy weekend.

The volunteer coxswains thoroughly enjoyed themselves, meeting so many people who also appeared to be having a great time on board. The Audlem Lass team were all delighted with the response to the new service and the numbers who turned up.

Next weekend, Audlem Lass will be available on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday. The monies raised by this new Audlem attraction will help pay for a new RNLI lifeboat at New Brighton on the Wirral, which is near to one of Britain's busiest shipping lanes.
