Audlem Lass set off on the dot of 9.30am yesterday on her first 'paying' voyage from Overwater Marina to Audlem.

The weather was perfect and almost a hundred passengers, plus a couple of dogs, enjoyed their trip along the canal during the day. The passengers all – well, we are not sure about the dogs – made donations to the RNLI, the lifeboat charity.

Funds raised on Audlem Lass will help pay for a new lifeboat at New Brighton at the mouth of the River Mersey, one of the country's busiest shipping lanes.

Audlem Lass will be running a scheduled service today and over the Easter weekend. The normal £1 fares are being waived and donations to the RNLI accepted over this weekend.
