Audlem's Parish Council chairman Richard Furber is featured prominently on the front page of this week's Chronicle under the headline 'Wind farm fury'. The story describes how villages in the area are joining a fight against a wind farm over the border in North Shropshire.

Energy company Nuon Renewables is planning to erect seven wind turbines near Woore which would each be as high as St Paul's Cathedral. There are fears over health issues and noise. A smaller 60 metre mast has already been erected just 600 metres away from one home.

A group called Vortex has been persuading rural areas to join in the battle. The mast already built can be seen from Audlem cricket ground, points out Vortex member Steve Ellsmore, who plays at the ground and lives in Woore.

Villagers in Audlem, Buerton and Bridgemere say they are fearful of the impact the development will have. Richard Furber says: "We don't want it round here. It will be a blot on the landscape. We are right behind Vortex on this." Buerton parish councilor Chris Warburton added: "I am very concerned. I am told I will be able to see this from my house and also hear it. Don't these things belong in deserted coastal locations?"

Nuon say: "Vortex is promoting the idea that wind turbines cause noise and in particular infra-sound and amplitude modulation health problems. Recent government-commissioned research does not support this contention."

Clearly there are differing views on the impact. Jane and Julian Davis, who live in Lincolnshire, will be giving a talk in Woore Victory Hall on 4th October at 7.30pm and say their lives have been made hell by a nearby wind farm.
