Crewe & Nantwich United 1-4 Audlem FC

Audlem Football Club's excellent form in the Crewe Regional Sunday League Division One continued on Sunday with a comprehensive 4-1 victory at Crewe & Nantwich United.

After a draw against unbeaten Nantwich Pirates last week, Audlem came into the game in high spirits. The game was played at Brittles Pavillion, Wistaston, and with the wind blowing into their faces, Audlem kicked the game off.

The first half was a frustrating affair. Audlem struggled to get their foot on the ball, and the home side were able to play over the top regularly as the ball was helped on by the wind. Chances were few and far between, and when Audlem did play, they looked dangerous.

C&N threatened from a couple of corners, but the game looked like it would remain goalless at the break. However, on 41 minutes a free kick from deep was headed home by the C&N striker as Audlem claimed offside. A simple, soft goal. 1-0.

Half Time: C&N United 1-0 Audlem

With the wind behind them, Audlem dominated from the start of the second half. The visitors got the ball down and played, with James Craig at the centre of everything. When moving the ball wide at every opportunity, Audlem were creating problems.

It was down the left-hand side that the deserved equaliser came on 65 minutes. A brilliant through ball from Josh Dennis was squared by Kev Rodgers for Shea Bebbington to tap home. 1-1.

Two minutes later and Audlem were ahead. James Craig lofted the ball in from deep and Kev Rodgers cushioned a header into the bottom corner. 1-2.

The visitors continued to dominate, playing a higher line and keeping the ball in their opponents half. On 75 minutes the game was put to bed. Shea Bebbington ran tirelessly all day, and he pressured the full back who played a short pass back. When rounding the keeper, Shea was brought down, and an obvious penalty awarded. Nick Gregory stepped up to smash it home. 1-3.

There was time to add gloss to the scoreline with 5 minutes left. Nate Renyard played a cultured long ball over the top which Nick Gregory finished across the keeper. His 13th of the season, and no more than the visitors deserved. 1-4.

Full Time: C&N United 1-4 Audlem

Man of the Match went to Chris Pszyk, for his neat build up and solidity in the number 10 role.

Audlem remain 5th, but have closed the gap on those above them with games in hand. With two home games against teams above them in the next fortnight, Audlem have the chance to put the pressure on.
