Last night at the ADAS annual general meeting, this year's Citizens of the Year were announced.

To much pleasure, Olive & Geoff Stretch were awarded the Community & Heritage Award – Citizen of the year.

When ADAS decided to make a Community & Heritage award each year from 2009, it was to be a recognition of the part played by an individual in helping in the enhancement of the fabric that is our community.

Last night ADAS said: "We were delighted to award the 3rd Trophy to a very hard working couple for giving so much time to many groups and undertaking many tasks. For the way they work tirelessly in ensuring the Public Hall is in such good order – all totally given free of any financial reward and who are there to help whenever others make demands on them.

"True servants of the village and the community in so many, many ways. We refer of course to the very willing Olive & Geoff Stretch."

Young Citizen of the Year award

Last year ADAS inaugurated the Young Citizen of the year award , recognising the input of young ones to the good of the village and to recognise their community spirit in their burgeoning career paths.

This year's winner was Laura Bentley.

ADAS said: "Laura is a young woman whose aim is the give aid to those most in need of help in the wider world. She has worked extremely hard to raise the funds needed to be able to travel to very poor areas of the globe and there to use her talents and enthusiasm to give aid directly to the children of the country chosen."

Laura gave a brief talk later on the challenges she will be undertaking in this work.

Tomorrow, AudlemOnline will give details of the winners of the Garden of the Year award and the Commercial Property of the Year.
