Audlem and District Bowling Club recently hosted its highly anticipated annual Charity Plate competition Sunday 28th June , bringing together players, supporters, and the local community for a spectacular day of bowling in aid of AMMF, held in loving memory of late club member and A team captain, Michael Katterloher.
A Dramatic Clash on the Green
The tournament culminated in a captivating final match between the formidable pairings of Andy Watson & David Davenport and Jimmy Stretch & Keith Thelwell.
The match started as a cagey, tactical affair, with both pairs trading tight ends. Andy and David found their rhythm early in the mid-game, showcasing superb accuracy to secure a 2-point haul on the fifth end and another single on the sixth, surging into a promising 5-3 lead.
However, local tournaments are won on grit. With Jimmy Stretch leading off on the final end, he and Keith Thelwell staged a masterclass in pressure bowling to mount a phenomenal late-game comeback. After chipping away with singles to level the score at 5-5 by the eighth end, Jimmy and Keith delivered a devastating blow on the ninth, picking up a massive 3 points. They clinically wrapped up the title on the tenth end with another 2 points, sealing a brilliant 10-5 victory to claim the Charity Plate.
