John Gerard – English herbalist

Our February talk is about John Gerard, the eminent Tudor surgeon and gardener, born in Nantwich, who published his Herball or General Hiftorie of Plantes in 1595. The talk encompasses development of the herbal, draws on the descriptions of plants and considers Gerard’s eminent associates.
The speaker, Graham Dodd, is a volunteer at Nantwich Museum and author of several research booklets. He’s a frequent speaker at our meetings.

Meetings take place in the Scout and Guide Hall in Cheshire Street and start at 7.30pm. The full annual subscription is £15 but a reduced rate of £10 is offered for the remainder of the 2025/26 season. Alternatively, visitors can pay £4 on the door.
