Audlem welcomed their visitors from Wedgwood CC looking for a much needed victory after 3 successive league defeats which has seen them drop down to mid table in the Sunday Section B ( South ) division. The team registered 3 changes from last week's defeat at the hands of Stone CC – Ronnie Farnell replacing his father Steve , Paul Thorburn returning for James Hindle and Quama Matthews as a late replacement for the injured Zar Ahmed.

Wedgwood had first use of the wicket with Atiqu Hashmi and young Reggie Farnell opening the attack. Both bowlers contained their opponents well with the wicket offering a little assistance with some movement off the seam and good carry to the keeper. The batsmen were aware that a score of 200 plus would be needed to set a competitive target so risks had to be taken to achieve their aim.

With skipper Chris Shenton making regular bowling changes to prevent the batsmen becoming settled wickets began to fall at regular intervals and at one stage it looked as if the game would be short lived with Wedgwood slipping to 114 for 9 with only 24 overs bowled but a last wicket stand of 46 by no.9 bat Adeel Nusrat (48 not out ) and veteran Fred Brown (4) took the total to a respectable 160 all out off 33 overs. The pick of the bowlers were young Reggie Farnell who bowled 7 overs conceding 31 runs for the reward of 4 wickets including the one of Fred Brown to break the stubborn last wicket stand & Jamie Roberts who bowled a fine mid innings spell of 9 overs at 29 for 4 including the key wicket of Aaron Tymczuk for 39. Atiqu Hashmi 5 overs 24 / 1 . Dion Bengry 4 overs 25 / 0 . Simon Swift 6 overs 37 / 1. and Ronnie Farnell 2 overs 7 / 0

Audlem's strong batting line up were in no mood to hang around and set off to overhaul the modest target with gusto. Danny Thorburn and Charlie Hine made useful contributions of 14 and 15 respectively to support opener Ronnie Farnell who played some delightful shots to all parts of the ground in compiling a match winning 72. Quama Matthews (34 not out) and Paul Thorburn (17 ) came together to bring the game to a swift conclusion in only 24 overs to gain 20 points and a very welcome victory.

Next Sunday Audlem make the short journey to take on Whitmore CC (2;30 pm start )

Scorer needed

It is a requirement in our new league to provide a scorer for our Sunday afternoon games and we appear to be the only team who doesn't have one at the moment... any offers to fill the vacancy would be much appreciated. It is a paid position but not sure it would reach the National Minimum Wage but a tea is provided and transport to and from the games could be arranged.
