The A.G.M. of Aston and District W.I. took place at Broomhall community centre on Friday 4th November.
The Luncheon club will meet at the Combermere in Burleydam on Tuesday 8th November at 12.00 noon and the Walkers will meet at Acton church on 9th November at 10.30am ending with lunch at The Park in Wrenbury. A darts practice will take place at Rose's house on Tuesday November 15th at 2p.m.
A short report about the Group meet was given by Mary Hignett. Joan Sweeney and Irene Williamson gave the Annual report, reminding us all of all the interesting and enjoyable times we have all spent together during 2022.
Rosemary gave her final address thanking members of the committee and club organizers for all their hard work. Gifts and flowers were presented by the Vice Presidents to Rose for her leadership and friendship.
Ross High read out the nominations for a new committee and President which were duly elected.
After the formalities were over, Karen Dean and Jenny Bourne invited us all to enter the chapel which had been set up as a cinema and gave an amazing film show of how and when the W.I. began and all the great things it has been able to achieve. Campaigns such as women in the police force, equal pay for equal work, keep Britain Tidy, cervical screening and for parents to be allowed to visit their children in hospital. This was followed by photographs from our own archives. Dorothy Relton told us about her visit to the Royal Garden Party and about the little keepsake she still has from the occasion, a little chocolate button with the Royal crest on which was on one of her cakes. Just when we thought it was all over we were delighted by the arrival of Norman Bourne dressed as an ice cream vender, bringing everyone a tub of locally made ice cream. A fantastic surprise and a great way to finish off our cinema visit. Many thanks to Karen, Jenny, Norman and also Pamela for all her technical know-how.
Teas and cakes were served and the raffle drawn and prizes were distributed. The winner of the competition of a limerick was won by Jenny Bourne.
The Competition Cup was won by Diane Joslyn.
We closed with the National Anthem after a very eventful meeting.
Before leaving we were all reminded about the Christmas lunch on Friday December 2nd at 12.00 noon at Broomhall Community Hall
