Aston & District W.I June 2018 Report

Members and guests were welcomed to our June meeting by our President Jenny Bourne.

All our classes – Darts, Dominoes, Bowls and Scrabble are ongoing this month.
Our Luncheon Club will meet at The Swan, Marbury, 5th June, 12noon for 12.30pm.
The Walking Group will be meeting on 13th June at the Bears Paw at Warmingham at 10.30 am.
On 3rd August we are having a Skittle Evening followed by a Fish and Chip Supper, always something to look forward to.

Our speaker for June was Mr Tony Bostock who gave a talk entitled Cheshire Villages. He began by telling us he had always had an interest in local history and described himself as "a bit of a geek". His talk ranged over thirty different villages from Acton to Warburton pointing out places of interest and historical facts about each of them including the origins of their names. Throughout his talk he encouraged his audience to participate whenever they could, adding more local knowledge and discussion to the evening. Everyone left the meeting with many ideas of places to visit and explore in the future.

The vote of thanks was given by Mary Charlesworth.

The competition for the evening 'Something made in Cheshire' was won by Helen Johnson who brought along a bird carved in Yew from Wrenbury churchyard.

Rosie Lomas gave us a brief report on last month's Malbank Group meeting held in Audlem.
Our next meeting will be on Friday 6th July when Mrs Rowena Lovatt will talk about "A Lingerie Designers Life"
New Members and Visitors are always assured of a warm welcome. Details can be found on our website – www.astonanddistrictwi.org.uk
