Eleven people decided to cleverly (or idiotically) ignore the pouring rain in Audlem and the advice of the Met office early yesterday morning and instead traveled to Capel Curig in Snowdonia.

They were duly rewarded by a day of dryness, warmth and fabulous walking.

The two intrepid walkers that took the more aggressive route up Glyder Fach from Capel Curig, were rewarded by a great walk, despite spending a short period walking in circles in the mist. Eventually technology in the form of a compass and map resulted in them descending in the correct direction!

The remaining nine did a circular walk around Llyn Craftnant and Llyn Geirionydd from Capel Curig. Led by Andy Davidson, this was a 10 mile walk at a reasonably low level around the above two lakes.

It was a terrific walk of great variety – fells, forests and lakes and fabulous views, together with 350 metres of climbing over generally good ground.

There were several highlights during the walk. In addition to several cuckoos, a beautiful thrush, several grey wagtails, a bat with insomnia and a distressed holly tree covered in berries, the walk also included a gymnastic demonstration with the aid of a tarzie at Llyn Geirionydd.

Unfortunately the weight of the athlete was a little greater than the design load of the tarzie resulting soggy boots! The second (lighter) gymnast was more successful (i.e. dryer).

Thought for a day: "Never pass an empty tarzie."
