Saturday March 23rd

Meet in Audlem Car park at 9.00am.

The March mid-ARS walk is a 7 mile circular walk which ends with a climb over Bosley Cloud.

Andy Davidson will lead this walk – here is his description

We start at the car park at Timbersbrook, for those of you that cheat and use satnavs the postcode is CW12 3PP, for the people who navigate properly the grid ref. is SJ 895 627. We then make our way to the Macclesfield Canal and have a pleasant stroll along it for several miles, getting good views of our final ascent in places, before cutting back and climbing over Bosley Cloud. A bit of a steep climb which I will be taking slowly due to my lack of fitness!

The walk is about 7 miles in length and involves around 800 feet of ascent.

Please note that when I recce'd the walk it was very muddy in places and therefore also slippery. There were no spots where it was very difficult but care does need to be taken unless it very rapidly dries out over the next week. If you are comfortable using one then a walking stick might be appropriate.

Dogs can be taken on the walk with the usual proviso about farm animals, but if it is muddy then please keep them under close control. In addition the actual area of The Cloud is open access land and at this time of year it is a requirement that dogs are kept on a short lead because of the possibility of ground nesting birds.

NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.

Non-members of ARS are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
