ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) will meet at 9.00am on Audlem car park on Saturday before the 30 miles drive to the Roaches in Staffordshire for a 9 miles walk with a total ascent of 370 metres (approximately 1200 feet).
The walk starts from Meerbrook Village and follows lanes, farm tracks and fields up to Buxton Brow and Clough Head. Then over a ridge to Luds Church Cave. From here it is a long pull up to Roach End which is 1 mile away.
Crossing the road we follow a very well made up track to the summit of the Roaches (505m). Here, the views are exceptional. All downhill from hereon across the Roaches Ridge to Hen Cloud then across farmland to pick up the Staffordshire Moorlands Way.
We arrive back at the start via Frith Bottom Farm and Meerbrook Church.
Besides stunning views there are lots of birds to look out for which were seen on the recce – including Heron, Grouse, Kestrel, Pippet and of course the Buzzards.
Because of the recent dry weather this walk is highly recommended because the footpaths are relatively dry. However, good walking boots and windproof/rainproof attire is necessary.
The walk is a 3 booter or for the four footed, a 5 wagger wagger according to Tag.
