General Election

On Tuesday the Prime Minister gave a statement putting forward the motion to hold a snap election on June 8^th. It is only right that the British public have the opportunity to say how we shape our Nations future as the UK enters into negotiations to leave the EU and I therefore voted in favour of the motion calling for an election. It has been an honour to serve my constituents in Eddisbury and over the coming weeks my Winsford office will remain open to help with casework and any issues that my constituents may have. Following the dissolution of parliament any policy queries should be directed to antoinette4eddisbury@gmail.com.

Heros4Hire Handymen Graduation

I was thrilled to attended a special event celebrating the graduation ceremony of the Heros4Hire Handymen. The business, set up by a local constituent, trains armed forces veterans in building skills and then employs them to undertake maintenance and property repairs. I was lucky enough to be at Reaseheath College to present the graduation certificates to the first group of veterans and I would like to wish them all the best for the future.

Scotland Questions

I spoke during a debate on Scotland's contribution to the UK and asked the Secretary of State for Scotland David Mundell what assessment he has made of the contribution of Scotland to the future of the UK. He responded by assuring me that at the heart of the United Kingdom is the unity of our people, a unity of interests, outlook and principles which transcend politics, institutions, the constitution and the economy. I followed this up by asking the Secretary of State whether he agreed with me that Scotland plays a crucial role in defending my constituents in Eddisbury and those throughout the whole of the United Kingdom. I was assured that Scotland is on the frontline of defending the United Kingdom and is the home to essential defence capabilities.

CMS Westminster Hall Debate

I returned to the house early from the Easter recess to speak in a Westminster Hall debate on the Child Maintenance Service (CMS). This is an issue very close to my heart and I have held meetings regarding the problems with the CMS with every relevant Secretary of State since becoming an MP. I spoke about the fundamental flaws that exist in the system which disproportionately operate against the 75% of single parents that are women. We must support those who are least able to enforce their rights and the fact that their legal rights have been taken away means that the burden and responsibility on the Government are that much greater. I called on the Minister to take action so as to ensure that the flaws in the system are resolved as soon as possible.

Visit to the UAE

I was fortunate enough to be part of a delegation to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) organised by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the UAE. During a packed five days we met with HE Reem al Hashimi, Minister of State for International Cooperation and HE Noura al Kaabi, Minister of the Federal National Council. We also engaged with the British Business Group Dubai and the Dubai International Financial Centre amongst many other things. The UK currently exports £15bn worth of goods to the UAE with the aim being to increase this to £25bn and I look forward to seeing Eddisbury benefit from this growth in the future.
