Well done to our Year 6 children who completed their sporty week last week by representing school in a Sportsfest event at Millfields on Friday afternoon.

They competed against three other local schools in hockey, javelin, 600m and dance earning points for our school in each event.

Pearl and Sapphire classes headed to Chester Zoo on Tuesday and enjoyed a workshop about rainforests. They learnt about the heaviest snake in the world and saw exotic animals that live in exciting habitats. Kate from Year 1 told me:
"We saw the tigers and sloths, the elephants, turtles and fish."

Congratulations to Miss Danha and her team of Global Ambassadors who received the news this week that their hard work, raising awareness across school about Fairtrade this year, has been recognised by our school being awarded the FairAware Award!

Our Head Girl and Boy, Molly Sullivan and Riley Capewell, are represented our school at a Somme Commemoration at the Nantwich War Memorial on Friday morning as part of Cheshire East Reflects. Many dignitaries joined the children, including the Mayor of Cheshire East for this special commemoration event.

Children in our EYFS and Key Stage 1 classes competed in our inter school Sports Tournament on Thursday, representing their Teams to gain points for an overall winner. Congratulations to Oak team who won this event overall.

The Key Stage 2 Sports Tournament took place on Friday afternoon – I look forward to updating you with the outcome of this next week. Well done to all of the teams for your fabulous efforts!

Well done to our School Parliament for organising last week's non uniform day in aid of the NSPCC. This fundraiser raised £115.60, which will be sent to the NSPCC to support their important work. Thank you for all of your support with this.

This week's Praise Book children are:

  • Mrs Hayward's Class – Henry Howe
  • Miss Danha's Class – Alesha Wilson
  • Mrs Richardson's Class – Chloe Sherwin
  • Mrs Stoker's Class – Ruby Milburn
  • Mr Perry's Class – Ben Jones
  • Mrs Bird's Class – Oscar Javens Congratulations to you all!

Tidy Team -The winning classes this week are Amber and Sapphire classes – well done! The winners of our Attendance Cup this week are Ruby and Amethyst – well done!

FASA
We have recently taken delivery of sets of waterproof trousers and jackets for classes to use in their outdoor learning sessions in school, thanks to the fundraising of FASA events and the help of Ava Jones' Dad who sourced the items we needed.

This is a great resource for all of the children – especially given the unpredictable British 'Summer' weather!

Thank you for the donations for our Tombola stall for the FASA Summer Fair on Thursday 7th July. Thank you also for all of the raffle tickets that have been sold already. Please return any remaining tickets to the school office by next Thursday at the latest to be included in the draw.

Plans for the Fair are well underway and the FASA team are planning a host of fabulous fun for all ages. We are asking for cake donations for our cake stall at the Fair to be sent in on the morning of the Fair; cake plates are being sent home in school bags today.

A reminder that FASA would also welcome any unused, unwanted gifts for their Tombola and any donations of books in good condition would also be welcomed for their book stall.
Thanks once again for your continued support with these events.

ABC Childcare
All of the children really enjoyed joining school for sports day last week; we had some super fast runners! This week we are enjoying our book of the week – The Lion Inside.

We begin each morning with a treasure hunt to find the characters and objects from our book and then act out the story. It's great fun and fantastic exercise for us all! We have also started to create a brand new display all about the story so we have been very busy choosing our colours carefully to paint the animals. Why not pop in and have a look?

If anybody has any ideas for summer holiday clubs, please let us know. We love to use the children's ideas! Please contact the team at ABC on 01270 748081.

New Starters to School for September
We held our new starters evening for the parents of all of our new Reception children on Monday. Starting school is an exciting and emotional time for parents and children and we recognise it is valuable to be as prepared as possible for this big event. The Families in the Foundation Years website at:
http://www.foundationyears.org.uk/parents/starting_primary_school
has several useful sections such as 'Starting School' and 'Getting to know your new school'. They outline helpful tips about first day nerves and supporting your child in the first few weeks. I hope parents find this information useful.

Goodbye and Thank You
We said farewell to Mrs Jones on Friday as she leaves her role as Kitchen Assistant in school. Mrs Jones has worked in the school kitchen for many years and we thank her for her work over the years.

Catering Gold Award
Cheshire East Catering has been awarded the Gold Catering Award by the Soil Association in recognition of the high standards of meals that are provided at lunchtimes by their cooks such as our school cook Mrs Hayward.

Congratulations to Mrs Hayward and Cheshire East Catering for achieving such a special award.

American Independence Day Themed Lunch
Don't forget our special themed lunch on Monday – Mrs Hayward and Mrs Gavin will be cooking up another delicious treat in the kitchen for us all to enjoy! Please let your class teacher or the school office know if you would like your child to have a school lunch on that day.

Finally
We will be running a 'Move Up' session again this year where all of the children have chance to work with their teacher/class for next year and find out more about some of the exciting things they will be doing together. This session will be held on Wednesday 6th July.
