The road sign in our photo pointing to 'Toilets' in Audlem Square is informative. On arrival at the car park, the sign over the the village's Gents saying 'Urinal' gives, perhaps, too much information! But, how would you react to a sign on a building identified as a 'Unisex Ambulant Facility'?
That's the greeting visitors to Winchcombe in Gloucestershire receive after work by Tewkesbury Borough Council to sign new village facilities. The council has since admitted that they may have caused some confusion but claimed that 'ambulant' meant the lavatories were suitable for the partially disabled.
It's unknown how many officials were involved in designing and approving the sign but one may have to step forward soon to receive recognition from the Plain English Campaign as the council is now in the running for the plain speaking organisation's annual booby prize.
