AFC non-report

I drive back from London today -- in anticipation of a game -- but we have had to abide by the dictum of Cheshire East that council owned pitches are closed , due to the general sogginess of the ground. This well suits Audlem as the struggle to get a commitment from 11 players is so very much uphill. Like facing a Doris Storm every day.

Hopefully -- by the time the first Sunday of March dawns , we will have enough players say yes to form a team.

So -- yes ,for the last two Sunday's we have not lost !!!! ( there go those exclamation marks again) . A record in itself . No games!
As I drove after a fine family get together for Honesty's birthday, I mused on the landscape I was flying through as I rode the M1 and then to the M6. Grey skies all around us denying us that essential sunshine and vitamin D. Traffic moving quite without delay for the most part and able to keep an average of 70 plus. I deeply resent the new bright white headlights that dazzle do much. To my mind a hazard to safe driving for those caught in the glare.

In praise of trees

Interesting to note just how many of our trees are deciduous , with their bare branches outlined against the solid greyness of a February sky. How so different from being in Germany or Spain, with their preponderance of evergreen foliage. The beauty, albeit a naked beauty of the bare trees, is that one can see so markedly the shape of each variety of tree, outlined as they are. The limes, the oaks, the beeches, the ash trees, the alders, the aspens, the poplars, the sycamores, the maples So many more and so varied . How blessed we are with such a variety of broadleaf trees. 'Tis thanks to all those intrepid plant hunters of yesteryear that our fauna here is so wonderful to behold. To earth now.

....but...

I pull into a service station at Watford for I had foolishly not filled up at the start of my travels. To buy fuel. And be ripped off!
Why, oh why, must we pay 137p a litre when it was 117p off the motorway. Such a rip off to those stuck as I was. I feel it is so much a cheat by Shell and the like. After all, a Big Mac in the cafe there is the same price as it is in Crewe.

Now off again and into the deep dark of the night as we, the travellers, race towards our destination. So busy a motorway. So many trucks. The M6 must be one of the busiest roads in all of Europe.

My tale ends. Football next week . And who knows. A win!! One can but dream .
