As promised, here is a follow up to the recent good news item that Audlem & District Community Action, which runs the Thornton House Day and Coffee Clubs, has been successful in obtaining two Innovation Grants from Cheshire East Council to maintain and expand our services to older people and their carers who are in need of social activity and support

This means that we can now continue with our plans to increase the membership of our existing clubs, particularly for those older people who live in the outlying parts of Audlem & District. We can also develop the new befriending and home library service which have recently been started for housebound people.

Our Coordinator, Ronni Briggs, would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to refer people to our existing services or to the new ones. She can be contacted on 07845 495973 or you can email me on roger.millns@lineone.net or ring on 07807402348.

Of course, none of this happens without the help of our increasing number of volunteers who help at the day and coffee clubs, in providing befriending support and with voluntary driving. We will be in need of even more volunteers in the coming months so if you are interested in providing a few hours help each month then please contact Ronni or myself for more information.

People will know that Thornton House is to be replaced with affordable bungalows for older people by Wulvern Housing and will close by the end of July 2013. Due to the financial climate, Wulvern are now unable to provide a new communal facility but have offered to assist by providing land on the site for ADCA to consider building a new communal facility.

ADCA is also now a part of the Public Hall Extension Committee to look at how such a development could include suitable facilities for older people as an alternative venue for ADCA in the future.

In the meantime, we have been fortunate in being able to relocate the Tuesday Day Club to Hankelow Chapel, with the help of the local Methodists, during July 2013 and the Friday morning Coffee Club to the Lord Combermere following a kind offer from Alan and Jo Brown.

Finally, don't forget, all those people who have been associated with Thornton House over the last 40 years as volunteers are most welcome to come to the Celebration Event to take place from 2.00pm onwards next Wednesday, 3rd July at Thornton House.
