On the Twelfth Day of Christmas my true love said to me "Christmas Sweeties"

What can you do with left over marzipan or icing when you've finished making the Christmas cake?
Here are some ideas:

Marzipan
Roll out the remaining marzipan to a suitable thickness. Cut into shapes either with a knife or a sweet cutter.
Decorate with pieces of glace cherries, nuts or dip in melted chocolate.
Insert a small roll of marzipan into a whole date, in place of the stone.
Decorate as you wish with fruit or nuts pieces.

Icing
Flavour with a few drops of peppermint essence, grated lemon zest and a little juice, (orange or mandarin type fruit).
Add enough icing sugar to make it easy to roll out.
Roll out on a board dusted with icing sugar.
Cut into pieces as for marzipan.
Leave to dry out on greaseproof paper for a day or two, then put into a container.

Proceed as above, if you want it flavoured.
Cut into shapes and leave to harden a bit on greaseproof paper for a day or two.
Dip completely or partially in melted chocolate and leave to dry.

All the twelve recipes of Christmas can be found on the ADAPT Food Group page accessed through AudlemOnline.
