The 2nd XI were due to travel to Ellesmere Port last Saturday, but Club Secretary Chris Shenton received an email at 9.45 pm on Friday to say that the match was off. The email stated that the wicket had been dug up to carry out drainage repairs and that the ground would be unavailable for some three weeks. It also stated that players had been working on the wicket all week.
Audlem's players were unhappy with both the lateness of the notification and its method. Out of courtesy, a phone call to the 2nd XI captain should have been the correct way to ensure that the message got through. Clearly, the work hadn't just happened late on the Friday night and earlier contact should have been made.
The league is now to decide on the allocation of points.
The 2nd XI are currently bottom of Division 4 and today entertain fourth-place Wilmslow Wayfarers. The match starts at 1.30 pm.
