Dame Vera Lynn OPE.

She was only 7 years old
When she made her debut,
Singing, even then,
With her heart as well as her voice
What a talent!

We all know her.
She was the forces sweetheart
And what a sweetheart she became
What a girl!

She helped win the war
It has often been said
For, wherever our forces went
She was with them – in song
Bringing tender thoughts of home
Giving them a will to carry on
What a woman!

When she became a member of E.N.S.A.
She left our shores
To entertain our lassies and our lads.
Going to Egypt, India and Burma-
Receiving the Burma Star
For her bravery when things looked bad
And for her contribution to morale
What a girl!

To the folks back at home
She brought hope.
Showed us how to smile through our tears
She gave us a reason to carry on too,
Lifting our hearts with her songs
What a darling!

To those who suffered bombing and deprivation
And for hose who suffered loss
She gave a belief in a future.
What a sweetheart

What lady, what a woman.
A songbird,- a wife,- a mother-
A treasure.
Never to be forgotten
