We are looking for a cleaner to undertake the communal cleaning to the common areas within a block of 6 apartments in Audlem.
The successful applicant will require transport and provide Public Liability Insurance cover.
Due to no storage facilities or water access being available within the buildings, it will be a requirement to provide all necessary cleaning materials including a Cordless Vacuum Cleaner.
There is also a position available in Nantwich town centre.
If you are interested in either or both positions please reply with your contact details as soon as possible.

Corbrook: my ongoing request for works to address 'recurrent flooding in the dip' are due to take place between 11 -24 September. These will include kerbing, upgrade of two of the existing gully tops to large storm gratings along with 40 square metres of carriageway patching.

Old Railway Bridge Swanbach: further diagnostic and jetting works are due to be undertaken between 18 – 22 September. CE Highways have invited me to visit the site during works; I'll take my spade!

As ever these announcements come with the caveat of 'subject to weather conditions' and will result in more traffic lights but lets hope we can finally make some progress.

I will provide a more general update on the various Cheshire East Consultations and United Utilities works on Woore Road shortly.

Kevin Mellor on Roman numerals

10th September 2023 @ 2:35pm

I was interested to read the newsletter from the head of Audlem school and the final paragraph about teaching the children in one class how to add up Roman numerals. I had never considered this before and wrote the numbers down in the way we normally do a decimal addition and it doesn't work. Having checked on line how to do this, I am not so sure why we have all been told how smart the Roman's were. You'll have to check on line if you don't know how to do this or ask one of the children from Audlem school when they have had the tuition.

Brian Bugeja on Parking is a joke

9th September 2023 @ 11:47am

I agree with Pete Navis, that if Parking Charges are applied by Cheshire East, as proposed in a pre-consultation, this will make parking in the village centre even more difficult.

I encourage local parishioners to come forward and voice their opposition to such notions of car park charges, AND for the village to work as one and to share their ideas of why these would be detrimental to the village, in unison I suppose with the Audlem Parish Council. Once charges are started and infrastructure fitted to implement it, there's no way back!

I attended the last Parish Council meeting this week, where-in Lynette Hopkins communicated that a public consultation on the Car Park charges was out on the 6th September. Lynette, can you please share the link to the consultation?

If only there was a large piece of land owned by the village that we could use as additional parking for everyone haha.

Instead we are flooding the streets with cars.

Kevin Errington on Parking is a joke

Sadly receiving a parking ticket on Audlem car park is more to do with revenue generation than safety etc.
I would challenge this by asking Cheshire East Council and Audlen Council what alternatives they have in place for the current reduction in parking places due to the building works.
Why not allow the use of space on the playing field during the week to accommodate the excess, it's only used fully at the weekend. Traffic is allowed on there during events and is closed fully at other times.
You cannot expect people, especially the elderly to walk from Turnpike field if that was used to visit the GP etc.
As far as I was aware Traffic wardens are supposed to observe a vehicle for ten minutes before placing a ticket on it.
We pay enough in Council tax for the privilege of living here as it is without this sort of thing occurring.

Jeremy Nicholls on A song lamenting the closure of Audlem station

8th September 2023 @ 10:42pm

The infamous Dr Beeching wasn't responsible for the closure of the Nantwich – Market Drayton – Wellington railway line (Chatbox: 27 August). In his report: 'The Reshaping of British Railways', published in March 1963, all the intermediate stations between Nantwich and Wellington, including Audlem and Cox Bank Halt, are listed as 'under consideration for closure before the formulation of the report'. The last passenger train to call at Audlem ran on Saturday 7 September 1963, though the official closure date was 9 September.

The first passenger train over what was initially the Nantwich to Market Drayton Railway, calling at Audlem and Adderley, ran on 19 October 1863. To mark the 160th anniversary of the opening of the line, I'm giving a talk 'One hundred years of trains to Audlem: 1863-1963' at the Audlem History Society meeting on Thursday 21 September, at 7.30 pm, in the scout and guide hall in Cheshire Street. Come along and find out how the opening of the railway transformed our village; hear about the industrial quantities of damsons shipped out in the 19th century and learn who was shipping in barrels of beer, apart from the publicans! Visitors and new members are very welcome.

Lynne Smith on Parking is a joke

I have just received a penalty ticket for parking on the public car park in Audlem. Cheshire Street was lined with cars and no spaces were free on the car park bar a couple of disabled spaces. I parked partially on the yellow hatch markings at the cemetery end next to the field at 10.38 am and returned at 10.45 am to find a parking ticket. I had carefully parked in a safe place causing no obstruction. Where are we supposed to park for a surgery visit? Surely in view of the building work taking up several spaces Cheshire East could give us a little leeway.. Totally disgusted! No wonder local business are suffering! A £70 penalty charge for a 5 minute blood test!

Pete Navis on Parking is a joke

7th September 2023 @ 9:08am

This village for parking has become a joke.

I work full time within the village and now am struggling to find anywhere to park resulting me parking on a residential side road.

The main car park is always full and main roads have time limits where are we to park?

If I am struggling at 8:30am then what about customers/passing trade?

Then I see a DAFT idea of charging for the car park?!?! Are we truly trying to drive away business to the local area.

Sorry for the rant but hopefully it is not just me feeling this frustration.

Anne Burrows on A song lamenting the closure of Audlem station

6th September 2023 @ 11:05am

My dad (Brian Burrows) has been very much enjoying the responses to our recent post about the song lamenting the closure of Audlem station in the 1960s. "I am especially interested to hear about the possibility that the closure came about before Dr Beeching was involved" he says. "If this was the case, I am intrigued to know the reasons for Audlem's closure being mistakenly included in the song." He would be delighted to hear about any further information anyone might have about this.
He has also being enjoying listening to Frank Turner's more contemporary version of the Flanders and Swann song highlighted by an Audlem resident (link below). They said that until now they had not noticed that dear old Audlem was referred to in the song – despite playing it regularly. (Every day is a school day!)

Andrew Wren on Strange man

4th September 2023 @ 9:55pm

Our ring door bell picked up on a strange man dressed up in what seems to be female clothing, a handbag and carrying a blanket. He was seen approaching people's houses and looking through their windows and getting into a white car and driving away at around 1:15am this morning. He's been seen on a few of our neighbours ring door bells also and reported to the police. This was on and around McKelvey Way.

Just a heads up, keep your eyes and ears open and your doors / sheds locked.
