I think the communication from the highways team to Rachel just about sums up their ineptitude. Are they saying 'we know it needs doing and we are going to do it this week, please let us know if we don't do it' ......... Will they not know themselves whether they have done it or not?

Well done Billy, You have been a resident of Green lane rather longer than I have (1984 onwards) I am sure I remember an early series of comments on the failure of Cheshire(might not have been Cheshire East in those days) regarding Naming our road. Hopefully the pot hole opposite my drive, filled sometime in early 2021 and now already growing again will be dealt with far quicker than the signage

Jeff Price on Dog Poo Tipping

22nd April 2021 @ 11:19am

Whilst I agree entirely with Jane Maxwell's point about throwing dog poo into rivers and streams, I'm afraid this is very small fry when compared with the actions of English Water Companies. Raw sewage ,including human waste, condoms and wet wipes were discharged into English rivers 400000 times in 2020. The discharges lasted for over 3 million hours in total. The worst company by far was United Utilities.

Thats great news Rachel! Thanks for that. Things seem to be moving in the right direction.
P.S. Apologies to the Editor for using the word 'apathy' in the wrong context. It seemed right when I wrote it but reading it back it seems wrong. Right? ;-)

Billy there is more good news, its taken a while and a gentle reminder but ...... today Cheshire East Council Highways Team confirmed that they will attend to the sink hole on Cheshire Street Audlem.

"Good afternoon Councillor Bailey, I apologise for the delay regarding resolving this carriageway defect, I can however confirm that it has been re marked again for completion by the end of the week
Please let me know if this doesn't happen".

...that is of course..IF CE put it there? To be fair, I did ask them if they could do it ages ago and they said they would AND..it looks like they did but.....did they? Due to apathy
on here (apart from my response of course) it looks like they did. If someone else did it, they would surely hint at it. Due to no one hinting at it (yet) I'm taking it upon myself to thank CE for my (our) Green Lane sign. Now.........fix our roads if you don't mind.............;-)

Ann Tilling on Footpaths

21st April 2021 @ 3:35pm

I find it a sadness that Peter(Kay) has had a fairly hostile reaction to his original footpath post. Sad also that the respondents seem to find it amusing or clever to jest about his name. The TV personality(?) must be a few decades younger.
Whilst it may not suit landowners the rights of footpaths are well established and should not be swept aside. Sadly I don't walk very much at all now but when I did I hated electric fences due to an inability to bend easily or step over and an unreasonable fear of electric shocks.
Yes dog owners should be more responsible, a bit easier for me to say that as our one and only beloved dog is long dead. That said landowners have a duty to keep footpaths open.
going around a crop would be easier if fields hadn't become so large.

This item from the Liverpool Echo gives some information on reasons for leaving dog poo and fines that can be levied.

Is it illegal or just ignorant to throw dog poo into the stream that runs through someone's property, which feeds the Weaver? Better than dumping bags in hedgerows but surely not very eco friendly. I don't think the River Trust would be too happy if we all did it!

We have a long drive(300m+) that periodically needs to be sprayed for weeds. Does anyone know of anyone that can help?

Carol Haq on Dog on the loose!

20th April 2021 @ 3:13pm

We have also seen this dog three times in as many months at 11pm on Cheshire Street, the last time a few days ago. I presume it is the same dog and hope it does not cause an accident or get killed as it was running across the road in the dark. What to do if no-one claims it?

Nigel Young on Footpath obstruction

I Like the suggestion of trying to eliminate left dog faeces, be it bagged and hung from a tree or otherwise. Would AOL offer some anonymity to any dog owner who doesn't do the right thing. Maybe they could explain why they discard the faeces as they do.

I'd like to understand why they do what they do, maybe we can help, just a thought.

Nigel Young on Purporting to be BT Openreach

20th April 2021 @ 10:37am

Just had a call from a person purporting to be from BT Openreach on 00411 844 272294, which is a Swiss registered number. Strange how he had an Indian accent with his name being Oliver. anyway he ended the call quite quickly I suspect it was a potential scam.

Heads up if any one receives a similar call suggesting your Broad Band speed has been compromised, be savvy, don't give any info or let anyone remotely log on to your PC

Rachel Lambie on Dog on the loose!

20th April 2021 @ 10:05am

There's a beautiful red/gold dog running loose around Monks Lane and the fields either side. Runs like a puppy but about the size of a female lab. Collar on. Beautiful colour and looks well fed. I've tried but cannot get him/her to come near me. I'm worried it's going to get hit by something. If it's yours, please let me know the dogs name and I'm happy to help you look for it.

Helen Bradbury Smith on Gardening

Hello
We are looking for a local gardener or handy person to help clear my parents' new garden in the village. It needs clearing, digging over and beds reshaping and help planting ready for the summer.

Many thanks

Peter Kay on Footpath obstruction

My comments about the electric fence on footpath 23 had a surprising list of responses. There were several unsurprisingly making jokes about my name and more suggesting that I was a wimp for complaining or that I didn't have the sense to take an easy detour. I don't recall one commenting adversely on the farmer's actions. The vast majority of responses let rip at the walkers who leave gates open, drop litter, take dogs and scatter dog mess or poo bags about .
Now I too hate litter, dog mess and discarded poo bags. I don't have a dog and I always shut gates but can I suggest that the village makes a really strenuous effort to stop these evils happening – led perhaps led by the complainers. We have a better chance of success than villages in places like the Peak District because I suspect that most users of the footpaths are local. Visitors are more likely to use the canal towpath. So surely we should be able to educate or shame those wayward local users into a better way of behaving.

Allan Phoenix on Gas

16th April 2021 @ 6:20pm

Yes, there is definitely gas on the Anwyl Homes estate. There is a communal underground Calor gas tank, and each house is individually metered as with 'town' gas. The cost is about the same as mains gas.

Dave Martin on Save Our Steps

16th April 2021 @ 6:19pm

Shame on you Canal & River Trust! Over the last 18 months in our area you have presided over:
- lengths of towpath that flood and stay that way with, at worst, average rainfall
- "fixing" towpath holes by surrounding them with hazard netting and forgetting about them
- allowing broken signage posts to lay in the hedge-back
- allowing a known faulty lock at Hack Geen to deteriorate to the extend that the canal had to have an emergency closure to fix it
- installing a new lock gate at Lock 4 that is a potential sinking hazard to boaters
- allowed boaters to seriously abuse the mooring time limits in the village
Indeed, the ONLY improvement you have made to the canal in this area in the last 18 months is the new steps at Bridge 80. And now you want to remove them!
You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Dave Martin
